Body Part Matching

This is a good activity for 15 months plus! First, print two identical pictures of your child. Then using only one of the pictures, cut out the body parts that you want your child to match. Finally, laminate the pieces, so they will not tear. Now your child is ready to match! Name each body part for your child so that he or she can learn to identify. You will need to show your child how to match and assist your child during the first few times.

Teaching Tip: If the pieces slide around, try using velcro dots!

Teaching Tip: You could use this same concept with teaching body parts like leg, arm, neck, and head. Use a picture of your child that shows shoes, pants, shirt, and face. Incorporate a song like "The Hokey Pokey" or "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" to reinforce the vocabulary.

Teaching Tip: You could also print a picture of an animal to identify animal body parts.

Teaching Tip: This activity could also be used with children who are learning another language. Identify the body parts in the desired language.

Encouragement: You are helping your child's speech and fine motor skills! Good job!
